Saturday, January 15, 2022 is National Bagel Day! Why? Who cares! It’s a great opportunity to celebrate some of the best bagels in the Denver area.
Rosenberg’s Bagels and Delicatessen
Rosenberg’s has perfected the New York style bagel in Denver - along with fish and meats smoked and cured in-house. They have multiple locations, including a gorgeously designed space in Stanley Marketplace. They’re one of the only places I’ve found in Denver that has egg everything bagels - my favorite! They also have pumpernickel and pumpernickel everything, salt, garlic, onion, sesame, poppy, and more - plus bialys!
If you like smoked/cured fish, I recommend The Standard (your classic gravlax, cream cheese, capers, red onion, and tomato) or The Heebster (whitefish salad, wasabi flying fish roe, and scallion cream cheese). If the fish isn’t your thing, you can get deli sandwiches like a reuben or pastrami, as well as creative breakfast sandwiches. If you’re feeding a group, you can get bagels, spreads, and deli meats/fish to go as well!
The bagels are the chewy, flavorful dream that New York bagels should be - so good!
Woodgrain Bagel and Deli
Have you ever had a Montreal-style bagel? I hadn’t, until I went to Woodgrain. This variety of bagel is flatter and denser, with a larger hole - and is baked in a wood-fired oven - a different, but still very delicious, bagel experience! Woodgrain dresses up their bagels in a variety of ways - egg sandwiches, avocado toasts, lox, and a handful of flavored cream cheese (the chive is excellent). They also have deli sandwiches, breakfast burritos, skillets, and poutine! If you’re avoiding gluten, they do have gluten-free bagels in plain and everything. They have three metro locations - in Lowry, at Anschutz Medical Center, and in Boulder.
I’ve had a simple sesame bagel with chive cream cheese - a favorite combination. The bagel is crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and combined with the smooth and flavorful chive cream cheese, it was a perfect series of bites. I’ve also had the “Woodsman Loaded” - an egg sandwich with avocado, arugula, cheese, and your choice of breakfast meat. If you’re ravenous, this one is a good choice - so much food (and it comes with potatoes)!
They also have a full coffee bar, fresh orange juice, and kombucha. The Lowry location has a lovely sunny patio for outdoor eating.
There are other great bagel spots in Denver - but these are two of my favorites. Go give them some business on National Bagel Day and throughout the year!
